The de Merc Men’s Barbershop Group

The de Merc Chamber Choir tenors and basses meet from time to time to work on their ever-increasing  barbershop and men’s voices repertoire.

Inevitably, the “Songs of Yale” features prominently  but we also include pieces as varied as John Dunstable (15th century) through madrigals to Stanford’s “Songs of Old Ireland”.

Rehearsals are very informal and held intermittently in a member’s house on a Friday evening.  Cynics (eg sops and altos)  have observed that they are really an excuse for the men to get together for a beer and pizza or two.

It’s not true ! The group enables the Choir to perform in a greater number of venues with its smaller number of singers.  We frequently sing sets within the main concert programmes and are becoming  in demand for after-dinner entertainment which means we get fed and watered for free too!

Membership of the Barbershop group is not a requirement if you  join the Chamber Choir itself but equally,   you cannot get into the group without being a current member of the Choir.
